Painting Guide
Everything you need to know before you begin painting.
Metal Surfaces
Pre-painting
Surface should be free from dirt, dust, grease, rust, moisture etc. The area which is not to be painted must be covered by a masking tape, paper and/or cloth.
Surface Preparation
- De-grease and de-rust ferrous metal substrates by suitable treatment.
- For nonferrous metal substrates like Aluminium as well as Galvanised Iron, Tin etc pre-treat the surface with METACARE ETCH PRIMER AP10 at a DFT of 15 microns.
- For galvanized iron only apply MEATPREP INTERIOR/EXTERIOR GALVO ENAMEL PRIMER.
- For ferrous metal substrates there are two solutions. Two-pack apply METACARE EPOXY PRIMER 1.16. Second solution is to apply MEATLPREP INTERIOR/EXTERIOR ENAMEL PRIMER. , by brushing or spraying.
- Ensure that the surface is free from moisture and loose matter.
- Fill holes with appropriate steel putty.
- Spot prime putted areas with either tow pack METACARE EPOXY PRIMER 1.16 OR with MEATLPREP INTERIOR/EXTERIOR ENAMEL PRIMER.
- For best results, allow the primer coats to dry for the recommended period; then sand with 220 Emery paper before application of subsequent coat.
Painting
For best results
- Allow the surface to dry overnight after application of primer as above.
- Apply top coat with either METALTOUGH INTERIOR/EXTERIOR GLOSS ENAMEL, or ENDURE ENAMEL GLOSS or SEMI GLOSS, or, heavy duty two-pack METACARE POLYUREAHTEAN 343 GLOSS. using the recommended thinner, 600 for single pack and 604 for two-pack system. For best results, apply two coats allowing 16 hours of drying time between two coats.
- Remember to wet sand the first coat with waterproof emery paper (400 grade) before applying the second coat.
